What the....

A month ago I was out front talking to a lady who moved in with my neighbor (temporary). We were having a nice chat, she said that she was raised LDS (not active), works from home for the California BBB, and has a 3 year old son. She went on to say that she needed to find someone to watch her son for two weeks. I said that I could do it, and she said "I pay $150.00 a week". All I said was "OK". I watched Roman for two weeks (easy kid). When she came to pick him up at the end of the 2nd week, she asked if I could watch him two more weeks because she just found out the school would not start him until March. Being nice me, I said Ok. I guess I should have thought more about it. What preschool does not start a kid when they sign up? At the end of the third week I started to worry that she was not going to pay. I worried about it all week and came up with things to say. When she came to pick Roman up (end of fourth week) she said "Oh, I forgot my checkbook". I said "oh".. So that left me thinking she would bring it back that day. TODAY is Wednesday and no money. Sunday I texted her -- "Sorry if you tried to come by yesterday with a check, we were in and out, but we will be home till 2:30 today". She replied-- no worries I will stop by tomorrow. Monday she came up to me while I am washing my car and told me her day was crazy and that she needed to order new checks. So, Tuesday I texted her-- "So you don't have to worry about getting checks, I will take cash". NO response. So, what the............

You've been used!!! That bites! She is not planning on paying you, you are screwed. Your only hope is to be persistant. Either that or go kidnap her child and hold him for ransom!

Yikes! I know it's easy to assess the situation from the outside and offer advice that I'm not sure I would be able to follow myself, but if she truly is not intending to pay you, I think your best bet is to assume that her situation is dire, as many are in today's economy, forgive her debt, and thank Heavenly Father for the opportunity to help someone who really needed it. But probably not offer to babysit again unless she pays in advance.

Again, it's easy for me to say, because I'm not the one out $600! Lets start running again on Monday!
